This probably needs a mature content filtre, but I'm going to be an anarchist about it for now.
The bloodloss and fatigue hit him like a brick. Seth numbly led Erin through the woods, unable to tell where he was. He got lost when the wolves chased him and the pulsing pain in his thigh didn't help his concentration. There was no way he was finding his way back to the camp.
Erin was keeping up very well though and that was the only thing that kept a sparkle of hope in Seth's heart. However, going aimlessly through the woods could get them killed or lost even more. He had to find a shelter. It took him about half an hour until he saw a cave. It seemed spacious just enough for a man and a horse to stay in. He slid down Erin's back, hissing at the impulse of pain from his leg.
He led the stallion in, throwing the halter rope accross his neck, knowing that he wouldn't leave him and run off. Seconds later, he went down, unable to stand anymore. His mind was the worst thing at the moment. It has been showing him the worst scenarios of how this could end. Mainly, it was him being dead. Forgotten. Alone. He crawled to the cave's wall, flumping against it. He wondered if this was going to be it. If it would be the cold or the wounds that would take his last breath away. And what about Erin? Would the horse find his way through the woods until he eventually found a living, preferably two legged creature? And then, of course, there were people back in Fallen Angel, waiting for him to finish the trail and come back home. How will Diego react when he gets to know his little brother went missing? He didn't even want to know. Even through their endless quarrels, he still loved his brother. Love. Did Helena make it back to the camp? Was she safe?
Seth inhaled a deep breath through his nose. And then he smelled it. The bittersweet smell of death. His breath quickened as he tried to look around the cave, his body betraying him; it was hard to stay focused without actually being able to visually focus on something he couldn't see. There was a movement. Seth's eyes finally got used to the darkness. He gasped. There, in the corner of the cave were three bodies. Wolf pups, that he could tell immediately. Either the cold or hunger took their lifes, he decided. And then one of the bodies moved and Seth would flee if it wasn't for his wounds and numbness.
One of the wolf pups lifted it's head, slowly, too slowly for such a young animal who could be facing a possible threat. Seth realised then. No wonder the wolves attacked the camp even to the amount of people in there. They must have been hungry themselves, but their instincts told them to find food for their youngest as well. In the unleaving snow, it must have been too hard to find anything to feed a litter. The pup seemed to be almost loosing consciousness, being too hungry and too cold. Seth frowned in a painful sadness. They were just animals after all, driven by instinct. Mere survival.
"Come here." He whispered, leaning for the little animal. The pup didn't seem to mind him touching it, it sighed, letting itself be lifted. It saddened Seth the most, seeing how the life that had only just begun for the wolf was slowly draining away. He sat it in his lap, hugging the pup with his arms, trying to give it at least a bit of his warmth. He wondered if it's mother was killed at the camp. Maybe it was himself who took her down.
"It'll be alright." Seth murmured, patting the fragile creature's head. The pup squirmed a little, putting it's head on his chest and curling into a tiny ball of fur. Seth remembered then, a saying of Hippocrates: 'The soul is the same in all living creatures although the body of each is different.' Erin walked over to them, leaning his head down, sniffing at the pup.
It was then that Seth's decided that he's not going to give up. He was going to get Erin to safety, he was going to help the pup and he was going to tell Helena how he feels no matter what. Yeah. He sighed, leant his head back and closed his eyes. That's what he was going to do.
